PK to MK ink swap on 7880

I am currently running the glossy K7 curves for the Warm Neutral inks on my Epson 7880. What I want to know are three things and they are:

  1. Can I simply remove the PK ink cart from position 1 and insert a MK cart into that position to make the switch to MK FROM Pk ink?

  2. Is there a way I can use both the PK and the MK inks at the same time to keep from changing carts to switch from PK to MK and vice versa

  3. Are there curves from running both the MK and PK inks at the same time? I was told K6 curves would work

I ask this because my mind tells me that running the Epson ink conversion is no longer necessary because we are not running Epson inks and have custom curves that tell the printer what ink position to use. Also I want to print some images on matte and some on glossy and would love to NOT have to switch out carts each and every time

Thanks in advance

Hi Scott~

To print matte and gloss with your 7880, I recommend you convert to the Piezography 2 setup, which you can read more about (and get curves for) here: http://www.inkjetmall.com/tech/content.php?165-Piezography-2-Matte-and-Gloss-for-K3-printer-models

I hope this helps.
Best regards and happy printing~ Dana

Dana,

Thank yo so much, this is exactly what I was wanting to do. Once the carts are changed should I do an initial fill, power clean or what to purge the line of old inks?

At the risk of flogging a dead horse, this approach is another option which doesn’t require curve mapping and uses all seven shades.

Hi Scott~

To change from K7 to P2, you can either do an Initial Fill Cycle (which will use inks in all channels), or print purge sheets thru QTR Calibration Mode for the specific channel(s) you want to change, following instructions here: http://www.inkjetmall.com/tech/content.php?166-Flush-individual-channel-using-QTR-Calibration-Mode

Warmly~ Dana
