New Cart Not Recognized

Dana,
I finally figured out how to make my own post. I ordered a set of carts and a set of Cone color pro inks. So far I have successfully filled the photo black ink cart with no issues a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I filled the VLM for the first time but the cart is not recognized. I put the old empty Epson back in and it registered fine, reset the chip again on your cart, but still not recognized. Cat has now hid my empty Epson cart??? TNX Lonny

Hi Lonny,

It sounds like the small battery in the cartridge may need replacing http://www.inkjetmall.com/wordpress/product-use/r3000-cartridge-batteries/

Phil, this is a brand new car that I purchased from you. Will you send me a battery? Lonny

Hi Lonny,

Phil doesn’t work for Inkjetmall, he was trying to help you figure this out, he is a fellow user such as yourself.

I need to know if you do in fact have the battery style chips, please follow this link to verify which chips your cartridges have http://www.inkjetmall.com/tech/content.php?169-Battery-Replacement-for-4900-and-R3000-Chips

If you do have the battery style chips, then I will sent you replacement batteries for them, you can use this same article for replacing the batteries. Please let me know which style chips you have on your R3000 carts so I can get a replacement in the mail asap.

Thanks,
Kelly

Yes, I have the two gold dots which are used to reset the chips to show full ink. Thank you Kelly. Lonny

Ok, the batteries will be in the mail on monday, you should see them by the end of next week. You can follow the procedure in the article for replacement.

Kelly, a week seemed like a long time without a printer so I bot an energizer 377, installed it and the cart is still not recognized. Lonny

It must be the chip that is faulty then, I located a leftover battery style chip for the VLM position, I will test it in our printer after replacing the battery and ship it out tomorrow with tracking info

Thank you very much. Please send installation instructions as well. Much appreciated.

I had the same trouble and lucked out with this solution:
I removed the battery, cleaned the contact for the battery in the chip using some electrical contact cleaner, then reinstalled the battery. Dirty contacts just happened to be my only trouble.

Larry

Thanks for the update Larry, I’m glad you figured it out, and got it working after cleaning the contacts.

Best regards and happy printing~ Dana

Lonny, the chip is already on a holder, all you need to do is remove the entire chip/plastic holder from your cart and install the new one. There is a tab at the top of the chip holder that slides in behind the plastic holder on the cartridge and the bottom simply snaps into place.

[As an aside, this is a good illustration of why finding essential information is so hard. The first of these is in Articles | Products and Manual section of this forum, and the second is on the inkjetmall blog.]

Tnx Lonny

KellyC. That worked! Somehow I figured out how to change the chip. Please send a link for me to refer to how to change the chip in the future. Thank you very much.
