Matte only PiezoPro Quint Ink Setup on 3880

Is a Matte only PiezographyPro quint Ink setup possible on 3880 using QTR & Piezography Pro Software?

By Quint ink do you mean five shades of ink in five channels?

If so, no. There is a minimum of seven inks for matte only…

Maybe quint is incorrect.

I mean 4 shades of Piezography Pro cool grey, 4 shades of warm grey plus High Density Matte Black filling all of the 3880’s 9 ink bays.

Basically a 4900 complete print and digital neg system minus the photo black and gloss chroma optimizer which I thought were not used for matte

Yes you can. But you need to have something in the PK AND LLK slots or the printer will not operate. They should NOT be filled with air. We would recommend PiezoFlush to keep those channels and the black ink switch operable over the years. You can use the regular matte Piezography Profiles in this setup as they will not pull from those two positions.

Sorry only three shades each is available = 6 ink channels
The 3880 has only 8 ink channels in total

So you would not use the VLG shades and we have never made profiles for 9 ink printers with VLG. They are reserved for the 11 ink printers which have a total of 11 ink channels.

All EPSON printers we support switch the MK and PK above the black ink channel inside the ink selector unit

Yes, I get it. It holds 9 carts but only has 8 actual
channels

I’ve been out of it for a while and have never used Piezography Pro.
I was extremely happy with my K6 results. Imho the 7th shade was superfluous.
But dropping to only 3 shades of grey I’m trying to imagine just how smooth the light areas of tone could be.

You would never use three shades of gray unless you wanted a particularly bluish cool tone print or a particularly warm sepia print. Almost always seven shades of ink are printing like this:

If you go warmer than neutral the three warmer shades in the Y, Lm, M will print more and the three cooler shades in the C, LC, LK will print less.

Thank you for the clarification on all of this Jon. Much appreciated.
