Jon Cone Studios Type 5 - Comb over

First, I’m not asking to return the paper - it’s been two months; I’ve cut a lot of it up; I have no shipping cartons. But…

In May I bought a bunch (for me) of Jon Cone Studios Type 5, my favorite paper for fine prints. A few weeks later, after cutting the 17x22 paper in half and making prints, I noticed a new surface texture. The best description I can think of is that it looks as though a comb was pulled across the surface before it dried - it has gentle parallel striations. This surface isn’t acceptable to me.

  1. Is this an intentional change to the paper? If so then I have to find another paper. If not…

  2. Has anyone noticed this but me?

  3. Is it limited to a single batch? If so, are there newer batches that don’t exhibit this?

This is the first we’ve seen of it and we print a LOT of this paper internally. Do you have the batch # for us to verify? Also, photos (with scraping light) would be helpful for us to see.

best regards,
Walker

Does the batch number look like this: PS-JCS5-08-50 ?

That looks more like a part number to me. I’ll see what I can do about getting a picture after work.

Not sure I can upload an image OK, but here’s an attempt:

_SNY0050-02

Have you had a chance to look into this?

Can I mail you samples?

Please mail samples.
