How do different paper surfaces influence image quality?

Examining the archival rag papers I’ve been printing on (Epson Hot Press Natural, Jone Cone # 2, Canson Rag Photographique etc), I notice that the surface pattern varies. On different papers, the same image looks different under moderate magnification

I don’t expect gallery visitors to examine prints under a loupe but I imagine there are other worthy considerations.

Print color aside, for purposes of Piezography, how do different paper surfaces affect image quality ?

I’m not talking about coated papers, OBAs, etc. but the pattern itself.

Many thanks.
