Gray dots along print edge

I’m getting little medium gray dots along one edge of every print I make with my 3880/Carbon setup. They don’t look like head strikes, because they are not at the extreme left edge of the paper, but about 1mm or so from the edge, randomly. They are typically roundish, in little clumps of 1-10 dots, in the range of 1-2 pts in size. If anyone has any idea what might be the cause, I’d appreciate any ideas.
