A known problem with the 3800/3880 is that the rubber feet degrade over time and attach themselves to whatever it is sitting on. My 3800 feet have completely disintegrated and now just leaves a sticky mess where ever the printer sits.
Does anyone know where I can get replacements? I’m willing to make my own, but I thought I’d ask first to see what other people have done.
I just had to pick up my 3880 from its tabletop, and found it bonded down by those gummybears-as-feet. I was taking the machine to get a belt replaced. The tech put tape over the gooey mess, said its common. Problem solved.
If you want an actual solution, though, try pulling out the existing mass-of-glue and getting a white pencil eraser, cut it into little squares to fit the ‘feet’ holders on the printer bottom and secure with double-sided tape or a drop of glue.
You are lucky that you’re able to put tape on the mess. I have a 3800, which is older, and the brown gooey mess is on my countertop… so tape won’t solve the problem. According to the service manual, there are 9 of these things.
It turns out that Compass Micro has the feet in stock. They may have changed them, as the part number has changed. If not, I’ll at least I’ll have an example of what they look like.
