Does better printer resolution lead to more detailed prints?

I have been using an Epson 3880 for several years. The resolution is 2880 x1440 dpi. I noticed the newer P900 printer has a resolution of 5760 x 1440 dpi. Has anyone noticed any improvement in print detail or quality going to a higher res printer? I use K7 inks on glossy paper (JSC5 or Canson Platine). Thanks,
Wayne

When you have limited inks (K3) it does lead to better prints. K7 though has so many dots printing that IMO you still get better prints with K7 than even the newest 2pL dot printers lin the P900 (with K3)
