I have removed my cartridges in order to agitate. One cartridge was not recognized. I have inserted it a few times and still is not recognized. Then I thought it might me the chip needed to be reset. The chip resetter turned red but never turned green. I am in the process of replacing the batteries in the chip resetter. I have read you description when someone else had a similar problem with a 3880. Is the same process the process which should be followed for the 9800? I have ordered a set of chips in order to help correct this and other problems in the future.
From your explanation, it sounds like this chip has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
