Can color ink set channels be switched to avoid a delaminated area on the head?

I have been switching inks to the Cone Color set on my 9890 Epson. Had excellent results with the HD Matte black. Had to replace the head last year. Now the black channel has delaminated. Is it possible to switch the black to a different channel via software (QTR? or…) and forego one of the lighter blacks? If so, I would assume I’d have to choose either Matte or photo black for the life of the printer. Please advise.

It is not possible to do this with QTR. But you can technically do this with a hacked version of Gutenprint
