Is there an option to send a message to one’s email address whenever there is a reply to a thread?

Yes, when you start a new thread, you have the option to receive email notifications whenever there’s an update to your thread, but if you don’t check this box when the thread is started, I believe you have to manually check.

Towards the top of the page, just above the first post, there is a menu row that includes “Thread Tools”. Clicking on this item will show “Subscribe to this thread”. I’m fairly sure that this will do what you want.

Thanks Brian! I wasn’t familiar with the Thread Tools, since I’m subscribed to every thread and get notification of every new post, good to know!
