Adding matte option to Pro gloss on Epson 9880

I am using more film, and prefer to print with matte, now using P 800. What would be the best way to add the matte option to my Epson 9880 now running Pro gloss only?

Thanks

John

Use an MK Cart and select Matte Black mode on the printer, or am I not understanding?

best,

Jon

…thanks for the quick response…to repeat, Epson 9880 using gloss Pro inks to print on gloss papers…want to do Pro with matte papers…so are you saying just remove the the PK cart and install a MK cart, and then use the inks in the line until the MK comes through…or flush the PK out…

Is there a way to do both gloss and matte Pro without changing carts?

Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving…beautiful in Putney today…

John

Hi John,

Did not realize it was you! Yes absolutely gorgeous morning to awake to here in Topsham!

So when you perform the Black Ink Change which is in the maintenance menu on the printer LCD panel, it will run a cycle asking you to replace carts and will clear the ink to the print head.

Then you’re all set - as long as you do it that way.

best,

Jon

Jon:

looking for Pro MK ink and cart…saw this…what am I missing?

Piezography Pro set 9 (matte & glossy) is a Piezography Pro ink set for printers with at least 9 color positions where both matte and glossy printing is desired. These printers include Epson Pro 7880, Pro 9880.

John

…guess that means can switch between PK and MK…as you suggest…

Yes, that is correct

trying to convert to matte…following directions on menu screen…what are conversion cartridges?:

During the Black Ink Change procedure you will also be asked to remove four cartridges and place Epson “conversion” cartridges in three of the slots.

Just trying to go from PK to MK…seems I need "conversion cartridges???

John

It is a blank but specially chipped cart that ships with the printer. You may need to find one in the used market if you can not locate yours.

Jon

Purchased new “conversion carts”…followed instruction for black ink change in Maintenance…inserted conversion carts as directed, and nothing happens…just sits in idle…all carts full…both waste tanks empty…perplexed…trying to convert to MK from PK following directions…

John

This way (linked below) is much easier:

We have a blog post up related to it because it allows for ending an init fill of the printer:

How to cancel the Initial Fill process on Epson Printers

best regards,

Jon

Thanks Walter…using the 9880 manual tried the change one more time with the conversion carts…did not work…used the KC method… quick and successful…purged the PK and did a nozzle check…all good for matte Pro…

Tried all afternoon to print image with Pro matte…printer would show incoming file, go to 100%…then for three hours of unmtigted frustration, refuse to print saying “PRINTER IN USE”…turned printer off…unplugged it…called in the brains in the house, she is still searching the internet for an answer…

Never seen "printer in use’ previously…printer was working properly before ink change…did I do something using the KC method or during the PK ink purge from the black line?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

John

…just wondering…could using the three button hold down/shift for the KC workflow have changed some setting that might contribute to “printer in use”?

John

We are still trying to make this printer work with this new matte Pro. Everything was working properly before we followed directions and made the change from PK to MK. Now we can not print anything.

Is there any Epson resource we can approach for assistance? Is there any explanation for now getting the “printer in use” when we try to print a properly sent file, which shows 100% transfer…?

We are at loss on where to go next, having followed several sets of directions.

John

Hello,

Following up with this question/issue.

Simple question regarding the ‘epson 9880 Pro’.
How can I get the epson panel menu to stay with a manually set IP address?

Want to connect using ethernet cable using a manual (or fixed IP)
On the printer panel ->Network Setup → IP address setting : manual
panel ->Network Setup → IP, SM, DG Setting : 192.168.2.64 / subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Am having difficulty getting this address to ‘stick’ or stay.
After turning the printer off and then back on the
panel->menu->Network Setup->IP, SM, DG Setting reverts to either 192.168.192.168
(or occasionally 169.254.067.124 ???)

We have also tried to set the epson printer panel menu->printer setup->interface->network (from auto).

Would appreciate any suggestions.
