Clogged head, Epson 4900

Hi Mario,

Walker is no longer employed at InkjetMall. I was hired in October of 2023 as his replacement. I will try and help you.

It looks like you have an advanced knowledge of printer maintenance according to what you have already attempted.

You indicated that you have changed both the print head and the pressurization pump and there is still no flow of ink.

Have you attempted to push any fluid through the ink lines when you had the ink selector unit off the machine? This would test whether the pigment ink has dried solid in the lines.

Have you attempted to use fresh ink cartridges with this printer as you have indicated your cartridges are now well out of date? This will test whether you have bad ink carts which cannot be pressurized or that their ink exit ports are clogged with dried ink.

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. There are new developments in my ordeal! I decided to do a Powerful Clean from the control panel, starting with the VLM/LC channel and, lo and behold, the following nozzle check had ink on the paper! Hurrah! I then did the same for the other 5 channels and, with the exception of the Vivid Magenta, all colors printed, although with some missing spots. I did two more power cleanings of the VM/C channel with no luck, the Vivid Magenta swatch is still totally empty. What do you think it might be?
Thanks a lot,
Mario

Have you considered running an Initial Fill?

Rachel,
My name is Thomas Davis. I’m a customer of IJM
i’ve received a couple of emails from you that were intended for another
customer, possibly Mario. Just wanted you to make sure they were getting
them. you sent them on the 3rd
This is a great chance to get in contact with you again. I’ve been trying to
solve the same problems. I Have the OR GR totally clogged. I’ve been working
with it a while now. primarily just running ink patterns to keep ink flowing through
the rest.
How would you recommend checking the ink lines for clogs?

ThankYou, Tom

Hi Tom,

Mario jumped on your community thread about the 4900 as he has a problem too!

It depends upon what your channel nozzle check looks like. If the clog is full on or a wide swath probably these channels have delaminated from the frequent cleaning when air is present. You can post a picture of your nozzle check.

Otherwise - the procedure is two cartridges filled with PiezoFlush (O & G). Run the INITIAL FILL. Turn off the printer for 48 hours. Turn it back on and run the INITIAL FILL a second time. Run a nozzle check to see if it is cleared.
